Licence conditions for pollution studies and reduction programs

Summary

Licence number: 5590
Title: Tailings Seepage Management
Start date: 02 Jan 2017

Licence Condition
The EPA requires the licensee to investigate and report on options to address seepage from the Northern Tailings Storage Facility (NTSF) and the Southern Tailings Storage Facility (STSF).  The investigation must include: 1. Options to mitigate the seepage of tailings water to groundwater and the rising groundwater levels to the south and west of the NTSF and STSF including, but not limited to establishing purging bores or dedicated recovery bores. 2. Options to seal the base and sides of the NTSF and STSF decant ponds. 3. A high level conceptual study into the possibility of utilising the Cadia Hill pit and/or Ridgeway underground workings / subsidence area as additional tailings disposal locations. The report on options and the conceptual study into additional tailings disposal should include an assessment of strengths weaknesses opportunities or threats associated with any option and conclude whether any of the options are conceptually feasible, and if any of the options are warranted (or alternatively not warranted). The options report and the conceptual study into additional tailings disposal should identify the preferred option(s) to be implemented and why the option(s) is/are preferred. The conceptual study into additional tailings disposal and the report on options to address seepage is to be submitted to the EPA by 28 February 2018.
